Project Objective: The objective of the action is to facilitate an improvement of the business environment and the creation of new income opportunities in sustainable mountain tourism and organic agriculture in order to reduce poverty and exclusion in the selected mountain areas of Georgia. 

Project Duration: 12.12.2018 - 31.03.2023 (Extended by 31.03.2024)

Budget: 6,8 mill. Euro (EU - 3 mill. Euro; Sweden – 2,8 mill. Euro; Austria – 1 mill. Euro) 

Expected Outcomes
  • The legal and policy framework for mountain tourism and organic agriculture is enabling sustainable and inclusive development; 
  • Employment and income in both sectors are increased due to new and better products and services and through better market linkages, locally, nationally and internationally (at least 20% increase in income); 
  • Access to capacity development measures for people and institutions active in the fields of sustainable mountain tourism and organic agriculture is improved and a system of knowledge management is in place enabling joint learning among public, private and civil society actors. 
 Outputs in Sustainable Mountain Tourism:  
  • Elaboration of the national Sustainable Mountain Tourism Strategy including a Destination Management Plan and a branding policy;
  • Establishment and strengthening of Destination Management Organisations (DMOs); 
  • Establishment of National Quality Standard and Control system;
  • Development of products and services for sustainable mountain tourism including trail development;
  • Supporting certification process of guesthouses and guides according to the standards;
  • Encouraging Innovations for new tourism products and services;
  • Support in the establishment of new market linkages through marketing activities;
  • Supporting national and international exchange and organizational learning process;
  • Facilitating capacity development measures for guides and guesthouse owners;
Outputs in Organic Agriculture:  
  • Facilitating the harmonization of national organic legislation with EU regulations;
  • Establishing control system;
  • Conducing market and feasibility study for identification of producers’ and consumers’ demands and selection of the most promising value chains;
  • Supporting local farmer/producer groups in conversion to organic agriculture;
  • Support in the establishment of new market linkages through marketing activities;
  • Support certified products to be integrated into the region’s brand;
  • Facilitating the capacity development measures for certification body representatives/institutions and extension service providers;
  • Facilitating advisory services for processors, suppliers and retailers in organic agriculture;
