Module #9: Women's participation in politics and decision making process

Within the framework of the GRETA project, the online video on "Gender Equality and Women's Rights for Building a Just and Inclusive Society" was developed with the co-funding of the European Union, Sweden, and Austria. The primary purpose of the course is to foster the understanding of complex issues concerning women's rights and gender equality, as well as the protection of gender equality in society and business sphere.

About 50% of the world's population are women. Nevertheless, they are not equally represented in the decision-making processes at various levels, since they do not have the sufficient access to power and political resources. Women are underrepresented in decision-making positions both in the parliament and the executive power, in the public service and local self-governments, as well as in the private sector.

Without the active participation and involvement of women at all stages of the decision-making process, equality, development and peace cannot be achieved. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the importance of women's representation in the decision-making process at different levels; Also, its crucial to identify the barriers that prevent the political representation of women and to be informed about the mechanisms that will help us overcome the mentioned barriers.
